Notes: A neat little seventeenth-century copy of the famous commonplace book by Aulus Gellius (c. 125-180 AD). A Roman author and grammarian, Gellius was educated in Athens, long nights spent in which give the work its name. It is compiled out of an Adversaria, or commonplace book, and forms a compendium of observations on grammar, philosophy, history and antiquarianism. In addition, Noctes Atticae preserves fragments of the works of many authors who might otherwise be unknown today.
