Notes: Inscribed by the author on the original flyleaf: 'Barbara, from Lytton, June 1916'. The recipient was then Barbara Hiles (later Bagenal), an artist-friend of Carrington from the Slade, alongside whom she was venturing into the circle of the 'Bloomsberries'. This inscription dates from the early months of their acquaintance.A scarce book, the author's debut - on the title-page, he is styled as a 'Sometime Scholar of Trinity College, Cambridge'.
