Notes: Inscribed by the author on the original flyleaf: 'Barbara, from Lytton, June 1916'. The recipient was then Barbara Hiles (later Bagenal), an artist-friend of Carrington from the Slade, alongside whom she was venturing into the circle of the 'Bloomsberries'. This inscription dates from the early months of their acquaintance. A scarce book, the author's debut - on the title-page, he is styled as a 'Sometime Scholar of Trinity College, Cambridge'.
