Notes: Inscribed by the Dodgson on the half-title: 'Beatrice Cecilia Harington, from the Author'. The recipient was the eldest daughter of Richard Harington, Principal of Brasenose College and his second wife, Mary; her half-brother (also Richard) was a Christ Church contemporary and friend of Dodgson, who had translated a poem by the latter into Latin for the Daniel Press 'Garland of Rachel'.
