Description: Single sheet (c. 190 x 300 mm), 28 lines of manuscript, sometime folded, remains of red wax seal, toned and rather frayed, with a small hole at the central fold.

Notes: Signed by Richard Waterman, clerk of Providence Town Council, this attestation confirms that Joseph Jenckes (1656-1740) was 'deem'd to be intestate by reason of his insanity of mind', and names his son Nathaniel - a blacksmith in Pawtucket - as his executor. Jenckes was a civil servant, mayor and governor in the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, one of the original Thirteen Colonies established on the east coast of America.
