Description: a few ink blots to the edges and some scattered smudging, contemporary ownership inscriptions, annotations, and various doodles and sketches signed by one William Tennant pp. [2], 221, [1], 8vo, contemporary speckled calf, gilt roll at board edges, spine gilt in compartments with red label, some scuffs to the boards, joints tender, spine ends and corners a little frayed.

Signed by one William Tennant, these a detailed front and side view of a soldier in Scottish military dress, a couple of Gilray-esque faces in profile, as well as sketches of animals, including an elephant and – more fantastically – a bespectacled unicorn. There is also a tantalizing sketch of a country house – as yet unidentified – which was evidently used as a base for training. The annotations to the text have a more serious tone; changes of personnel are reflected in the notes, as are officers lately deceased. HIDE
