Notes: The second printing of these posthumously published translations, this copy with a note on the flyleaf marks this as 'Gertrude's copy' - i.e., Gavin Bone's mother, her son having died from tuberculosis the year before this volume was published. Laid into this copy is a sheet with an 8-line poem signed 'Gavin' - juvenile work with a little charm, wishing the recipient 'a better time at forty eight/ Than you've been having these few weeks of late' - the closing references to drawing and painting castles in Spain suggests, though, that the recipient of the verse may in fact have been his father, ...more
