Notes: Inscribed by the translator, Rex Warner, to the verso of the half-title: 'To Basil, with love from Rex, 1/60'. The recipient was the film-maker Basil Wright, the script for whose 1958 film on Greece 'The Immortal Land' had been written by Warner and featured its narrator, John Gielgud, reading a Seferis poem.
