Naked Warriors.

Description: FIRST EDITION, pp. [iii], 60, 8vo, original cream paper-covered boards with red lettering and a design by Wyndham Lewis to front, light dustsoiling, gentlest of knocks to top corner, very good

Notes: Signed by the author on the half-title, the signature dated to May 1921. Although not primarily know as a war poet, this is the second collection by Read to reflect his experiences in the trenches (following 1917's 'Songs of Chaos') in unflinching and experimental fashion. Read sent a copy to T.S. Eliot, calling it 'my gory war-book'; later that year Eliot was to call it 'the best war poetry that I can remember having seen' ('Reflections on Contemporary Poetry', Egoist 6: 3, July 1919).
