Notes: With an affectionate inscription by the author to the flyleaf: 'A Eduardo R[? name illegible]...' - hoping that he derives some pleasure from these stories. Platero was a Uruguayan writer and diplomat, a noted beauty and friend of Borges - the latter's introduction references Henry James, Poe, the Arabian Nights, Don Quixote, Virgil, and Seneca. The book was latterly in the collection of Borges's translator Norman Thomas di Giovanni.
