Notes: A very attractive edition of this architectural work on the Roman Baths of Constantine. Palladio worked on the sketches, plans, elevations and sections of the Roman baths throughout his career. These passed through a series of hands until they were purchased by the 3rd Earl of Burlington in the early eighteenth century, and reproduced as plates. Between 1776 and 1783 an Italian neo-Palladian named Ottavio Bertotti Scamozzi created what he termed the 'fifth volume' of Palladio; he reproduced Burlington's plates, but used text from Charles Cameron, a Scottish adventurer who in 1772 had self-publ...more
