Kidd, George Whitefield: America's Spiritual Founding Father (Yale University Press, 2014) as 'the most influential Anglo-American evangelical leader of the eighteenth century, the first internationally famous itinerant preacher and the first modern transatlantic celebrity of any kind, [and] the greatest evangelical preacher that the world has ever seen'.
