Notes: Mrs. Ann Ward is, as the continuation of the title tells us, 'a beautiful young Lady of Five Hundred Pounds a Year; who vows never to Marry any Man but him who resolves the following Questions'. We learn from the text that she is 16 years old. The text begins with her remonstrance to 'an Oxford scholar' who had opined that men would be better off if 'silly, untractable, perverse, useless, imperious' woman had never been created.
