Notes: Charlotte Elliott, (1789–1871), is best known as a hymn writer, but especially in her youth she was known 'for her wit, which sparkles in ... playful satirical poems' (ODNB). Since 1821 her health was not good, and in 1841, when she was particularly poorly, she came under the care of Dr. Jephson. These verses were issued as illustrated broadsides (represented in WorldCat solely by the pair in the Morgan), and perhaps also appeared in the local newspaper.
