Publisher's Synopsis

Most of the descendants of a Clandestine marriage - which took place in The Fleet in 1737 between Henry Burkin and Mary Lettington - are detailed, together with the earlier history of the Burkin name. Lewis' "Topographical Dictionary of England for 1835" describes Cudham as being 7 and a quarter miles S.E. by S. from Bromley with 660 inhabitants and with 21 acres of hop grounds. There was also quite a substantial strawberry acreage and various products from wood resulting from coppicing and, for instance, supplying wood when the grounds were laid for the Crystal Palace. This is an ordinary English family through the years.
