Our friend had an intelligent Christian faith. He studied the Scriptures and tested their practicalteachings in his own experience. He was fond of reading the Psalms in German. He. Thought Luther's translation more expressive and beautiful than the English translation. One day not long after the death of his dear wife, talking with me in his office, he suddenly caught up his German Bible and read in German the Opening verses of the Nineteenth Psalm, and his face glowed with delight as he explained the richness of meaning in certain German words, and told of the comfort that came to him from them.
